Deion Sanders appears to have responded to Dan Lanning’s comments following the Oregon Ducks’ 42-6 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes on September 23, 2023.
Lanning had said in a postgame interview that he was “grateful for the attention that we got this Saturday, in large part, to Deion and what he’s doing to college football.” However, Lanning also said that he was “focused on winning” and that he didn’t care if he was playing his 10-year-old son on the other sideline.
Sanders took to Twitter on September 24th to post a cryptic message that appeared to be a response to Lanning’s comments. The tweet read: “You remember everything but they’re times u need to forget it & move on. I know what they did but move on, i know what was said but move on & i know what they’re about but you’ve got to move on.”
Sanders did not mention Lanning by name in the tweet, but the timing and content of the tweet made it clear that it was a reference to the Oregon coach’s comments.

Some have interpreted Sanders’ tweet as a sign that he is still upset about Lanning’s comments. Others have said that the tweet is simply a reminder to everyone to focus on the present and move on from the past.
Regardless of the interpretation, Sanders’ tweet is sure to add fuel to the fire of the rivalry between Oregon and Colorado. The two teams are scheduled to meet again on November 11th in Boulder, Colorado.
It is important to note that Sanders and Lanning have a history of going back and forth in the media. In the lead-up to the game between Oregon and Colorado, Lanning had said that he was “excited to play against Deion Sanders” and that he thought it would be a “great game.” Sanders, in turn, had said that he was “respectful of Dan Lanning” and that he thought he was a “good coach.”
You remember everything but they're times u need to forget it & move on. I know what they did but move on, i know what was said but move on & i know what they're about but you've got to move on. When u do u can walk into your destiny unencumbered. LET'S GO! #CoachPrime

However, things seemed to get heated up after the game. Lanning’s comments about being focused on winning and not caring who he was playing against were seen by some as a dig at Sanders. Sanders’ tweet the following day was seen by some as a response to Lanning’s comments.
It remains to be seen what impact the rivalry between Sanders and Lanning will have on the future of the Pac-12 Conference. However, it is clear that these two coaches are not afraid to speak their minds. This should make for some entertaining games in the years to come.
