After Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season, Jemele Hill took to Twitter to share her thoughts on who the New York Jets should sign as his replacement: Colin Kaepernick.
“There’s a QB right there in New Jersey who took a team to a Super Bowl and a NFC championship game,” Hill tweeted. “Rhymes with Happernick.”
Hill’s tweet was met with mixed reactions. Some fans agreed with her, arguing that Kaepernick is a talented quarterback who deserves another chance to play in the NFL. Others disagreed, saying that Kaepernick is too old and out of shape to compete at a high level.
But Hill didn’t stop there. She continued to tweet about Kaepernick and the Jets, even after fans began to criticize her. In one tweet, she wrote: “If the Jets don’t sign Colin Kaepernick, it will be a clear indication that the NFL is still blackballing him for his activism.”

Hill’s comments about Kaepernick and the Jets are not surprising. She has been a vocal supporter of Kaepernick since he began kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to protest racial injustice and police brutality.
The Jets instead chose to sign Trevor Siemian who ::checks notes:: is 31 years old, and hasn’t won a game since 2017.

But sure, Colin isn’t playing because it’s a ✌🏾football decision✌🏾 https://t.co/rtCoNrx7il
In 2017, Hill was suspended by ESPN for two weeks for tweeting that she hoped the Dallas Cowboys would lose their next game because of owner Jerry Jones’ threat to bench any player who protests during the anthem.
If only Colin Kaepernick had assaulted or abused a woman. Because it sure is interesting how they don’t care about backlash then, and how it might negatively impact their business.

Hill’s support for Kaepernick has not always been popular, but she has never shied away from speaking her mind. She is a passionate advocate for social justice, and she believes that Kaepernick is a hero for his willingness to stand up for what he believes in.
His teammates in San Francisco gave him the Len Eshmont award for being the most courageous and inspirational teammate. That doesn’t happen to players who are deeply disliked.

Whether or not the Jets sign Kaepernick remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure: Jemele Hill has made her opinion on the matter very clear.
