Oregon head coach Dan Lanning addressed his previous comments about Colorado in a press conference on Monday. Lanning said that he does not regret what he said, but that he understands why some people were offended.
“I don’t regret what I said,” Lanning said. “I think it’s important to be honest and to speak your mind. But I also understand why some people were offended. I want to apologize to anyone who was offended by my comments.”
Lanning’s previous comments about Colorado were made in July at Oregon’s preseason media day. When asked about Colorado’s decision to leave the Pac-12 for the Big 12, Lanning said that he didn’t have a big reaction.
“I’m trying to remember what they won to affect this conference,” Lanning said. “I don’t remember. Do you remember them winning anything? I don’t remember them winning anything.”
Lanning’s comments were met with criticism from some people, who said that they were disrespectful and dismissive of Colorado’s program.
In his press conference on Monday, Lanning said that he was not trying to be disrespectful to Colorado. He said that he was simply trying to be honest about his own knowledge of the program.
“I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful,” Lanning said. “I was just trying to be honest about my own knowledge of the program. I’m a new coach in the Pac-12, and I’m still learning about the different programs in the conference.”

Lanning also said that he has respect for Colorado’s program and for the players and coaches involved.
“I have a lot of respect for Colorado’s program,” Lanning said. “They have a lot of good players and coaches. I’m looking forward to competing against them this season.”
Whether or not Lanning regrets his previous comments about Colorado is a matter of his own personal opinion. However, it is clear that he is trying to move on from the controversy and focus on the upcoming season.
